Welcome.

I am Rudy Dominguez and you have arrived at my EDTEC portfolio.

My name is Rudy Dominguez. I am a spring 2011 graduate. Growing up in San Diego, I always had an affinity for learning even if I did not necessarily like going to school everyday. I am a mostly self-taught musician and most of my media production skills have been acquired in the context of producing my own records and associated media.

My attraction to the field of education came to a head while completing my BA in Psychology at USC in Los Angeles. Though most of my friends were film majors at 'SC, I made my way through the psychology program while navigating the cultural wonders of the LA music scene. Toward the end of my time as an undergrad, I began a minor program in the “Teaching Profession”. The main attraction there was that upon completing the program you earned a teaching credential. Due to scheduling conflicts I never finished that program. I am glad I did not because I may have never had the opportunity to become a part of the Educational Technology (EDTEC) field.

After graduating in 2000, my deep interest in music led the begining of my career down a decidedly media-centric course. I worked as an art department assistant for URB magazine, sales floor at Amoeba records in Hollywood and as a production assistant for venerable hollywood commecial mill, HKM (now Hello and Company). Returning to San Diego in 2003, I expanded my media skills to the web culminating with a position at video site veoh.com. For the last two years I have been working as Wellness Coordinator at Horton Elementary in the San Diego Unified School District. Here I use media, mostly video, to deliver messages to students about healthy eating and physical activity.

I see a necessary new wave of education coming whether everyone is ready for it or not. I am looking to position myself to be in the midst of this revolution. It will involve the latest cloud-based technologies, mobile computing and asynchronous interaction via the social graph. In this portfolio I illustrate how my time at SDSU and the things I have learned in the EDTEC program will help me accomplish this goal.

My environment, which includes the team I am working with and their interactions, is the number one predictor of success for me. If I feel comfortable there is no limit to what I can accomplish regardless of what title I hold or which industry I am working in. My time in the EDTEC program has offered many opportunities to interact intellectually with myself and others in a way that makes me feel that this experience has been a success.
